Achieving Inner Peace through Emotional Balance

Today I'd like to share a bit more about the life and work of a truly inspiring person who has worked for decades to help others find inner peace and harmony—Dr Roy Martina, who was a guest on We Are One in Spirit Podcast February 3.

Roy Martina is a holistic medical doctor with over 30 years experience helping people tap into their true selves and "cure the incurable" by understanding the connection between emotional balance and dis-ease. He is a bestselling author with over 40 books in Dutch and other languages. He has spent the last 25 years studying acupuncture and numerous holistic techniques in order to offer people a profound level of healing, and has been tireless in his pursuit of methods that work swiftly and effectively to aid the healing process. This work has earned him international recognition and put him at the leading edge of the holistic and self-help world.

But Roy's road to success wasn't an easy climb. When he was six years old growing up in Aruba, he was diagnosed with having some minimal brain damage. Nowadays doctors would classify his condition as ADD with complications, including aggressive behavior. Both the psychologist and Roy's father told him he would never amount to anything as there were no schools in the area that could deal with Roy's condition. Because of Roy's aggressive behavior, it was recommended he go to judo classes to learn discipline and respect. These days, Roy says, "Martial arts literally saved my life. I was blessed with a great master teacher and I had a place where I could express my energies and inner self." Roy went on to become the undefeated martial arts champion in Europe for seven years, attaining three world records.

Discovering he had the power to overcome his challenges and achieve great things, Roy felt an inner drive that propelled him to go even higher. He decided to become a medical doctor, and worked hard to ensure he graduated high school and medical university with honors. But even that wasn't enough. After attaining his Medial Degree, he also went on to study Acupuncture, Homeopathy and nutrition.

When Roy first started his holistic practice, he was young, passionate and very motivated to cure any patient that would come to see him. Because he wanted to help everyone become well, he actually used to guarantee his patients that if they did not get well within 10 treatments, he would continue to treat them for free until he could discover what was blocking them from recovery.

Well after a year, young Dr Martina found himself treating over 300 patients for free! Fortunately for him he could afford it because he had ten doctors and therapists working for him and was seeing only the most difficult cases. That meant he had time to dedicate to finding out why some people recovered from their ailments quickly while others did not. He began to conduct research 5-6 hours a day to discover why these particular patients were not getting better in spite of having received the best holistic medical treatments he could offer them. He says:

"Step-by-step I began to unravel the secrets of the subconscious mind and how we sabotage ourselves. I discovered that our unresolved emotions and conflicts in the first seven years of our lives create deeply-rooted behavioral patterns and negative beliefs that cause us to sabotage ourselves, and that these can lead to long-term patterns of rocky relationships, financial hardship and, of course, ill health."

The end product of those years of experience and research is something Roy developed called 'Emotional Balance.' Roy explains, "Emotional Balance is a technique that allows us to return to what I call the 'Still Point'. The Still Point is that place within us where we are in our power and are no longer governed by our egos or our past."

This technique of Emotional Balance later became the groundwork for Roy's book Emotional Balance: the path to inner peace and harmony, which was first published in Dutch. The book reveals a new way to deal with our self sabotaging mechanisms, and teaches us how to return to our still point rapidly and easily, when life knocks us off balance.

The new English translation of the book has just come out through Hay House Publishers, and is coming to Amazon US on March 15. I am joining Roy in celebrating the big launch of his book.
